Googlebots Understand JavaScript

A spokesperson from Google told Forbes magazine that not only can Googlebots parse JavaScript, they can understand some JavaScript.

For years, JavaScript has been considered code bloat by our SEOs in our Denver office.  We try to minimize the code on the pages of our site for maximum search engiine optimization.  (The faster the bots get through your code, the better you will rank.)  We know this is important because in 2004, we took a site for a Denver engineering company and rewrote their code.  We did not touch any other aspects that might affect SEO like metadata, content optimization, or links.

We were able to reduce the code on the homepage from 900 lines of code to 400 lines of code.  Within two weeks, the site was ranking #1 in Google organic results for their targeted keywords.  Incredible results!

I wonder how Google's launch of Caffeine, and all of these changes, will affect the use of JavaScript among the SEO community?
