My name is Aaron Merriam and I love Python. I also love:
- being a programmer.
- working for a web develpment company that is willing to invest in me as an engineer by taking me to this kind of an event.
- being surrounded by so many other people who are passionate about the same things.
- I really love Python.
My introduction to Python development was at a job 4 years ago working at a robotics and automation company in Beaumont, Texas. I was pretty new to programming, and I spent weeks struggling with these C libraries and included technical documents for one of the sensors I had to evaluate. My code base was growing fast and quickly evolving into spaghetti and the visualizations I could manage were ASCII representations of my data dumped to stdout.
A thousand lines of code shrink to roughly 200. Instead of ASCII, I have real images (Thanks PIL). Instead of stdout, I have a true interface (Thanks Tkinter). Instead of the built in libraries, I have full control over my sensor communications (Thanks socket).
This was my first experience with Python and it was the beginning of a great love affair.
Anyway, off to another great lecture here at PyCon. Here are links to some of those tools that got me started into the language I love.:
