There are many things to consider before you create your amazing social media campaign strategy. Here is a step by step guide to building your social media marketing plan:
What is your goal of the campaign?
Defining objectives of your social media campaign is important in staying focused and choosing strategies and tactics that best fit your end goal. Some example objectives can be:
- Increase your social reach: likes, followers, subscribers, etc.
- Increase traffic back to your website
- Increase brand awareness
- Build online relationships with your customers
- Increase interaction
Define your audience
Of course, you can have more than just one audience you are marketing to. It is how you address these audiences simultaneously that needs attention. Do you plan on using the same social channels or building separate profiles that cater toward a specific audience? This is something to consider if you feel like one of your audiences will not connect with the content you create for another audience.
Your audience can be segmented based on demographic, gender, age, interests, industry, associations and more. Defining your audience will help with the content you push. You wouldn't want to promote Rogaine to an age group between 13-25 (you get the idea).
Research your audience
Researching your audiences help you to understand their interests and what engages them most. What are they talking or tweeting about? Then create ideas that build off of that information.
Create strategies per audience group
Whether you are doing this independently or in a group setting, come up with ANY ideas you can per audience group. Even if these ideas are outrageous, keep them on the table because they can be modified to be more realistic (or you never know, they actually might work some day).
Share your ideas with your teammates
Bouncing ideas off of your teammates can be beneficial. The wisdom of a crowd is essential in building and rebuilding ideas.
Narrow your strategies
By now, you might have a huge list of random and great ideas. Narrow down your list for this specific campaign to what you think will engage your audience the most.
You have the ability to build a successful social media strategy plan, it just takes a few steps to accomplish your goals. And if you are stuck, here are a few tips to getting your juices flowing:
- If you were being marketed to, what content would you respond to?
- Look at pictures to get your creativity flowing
- Organize your plan based on audience
- Always have a notebook on you so you can quickly jot down random ideas out of the office
